Peter Henson - National Jewish Health

Peter Henson received his veterinary training and a microbiology degree from the University of Edinburgh and a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge. After 10 years at Scripps Research Institute in California he has spent the rest of his career at National Jewish Health and the University of Colorado in Denver.  His interests have revolved around innate immunity and the inflammatory process. Investigation of how inflammation resolves led to the demonstration that inflammatory cells become apoptotic and are cleared locally by phagocytic cells. The mechanisms and implications of this unique form of self recognition, its importance in innate immunity, development, tissue remodeling and homeostasis as well as in many forms of disease, have been a major research focus ever since.
